Your Brain Is Wired for Repeat: How to Catch the Thoughts Holding You Back

Wow, what a powerful workshop! I just hosted my latest workshop for moms this week, and I walked away so inspired by the courage, honesty, and reflection that happened in such a short amount of time. We spent time reconnecting with who we are, what we want, and what might be getting in the way.

If you’ve ever felt stuck, unsure of your next steps, or feeling like you’ve lost yourself in the busyness of life, you’re not alone. Our lives change. Our roles shift. And it’s easy to forget to ask ourselves, “What do I want in this next chapter?”

Here’s a fun (and slightly mind-blowing) fact I shared in the workshop: Your brain thinks over 60,000 thoughts per day. And 80-90% of those thoughts? They’re the same ones as the day before.

Crazy, right? But it’s actually good news.

You see, your brain is designed to automate whatever it hears most. It’s trying to help you by putting thoughts on repeat so you don’t have to waste brainpower every day. Super helpful when those thoughts are things like:

  • I’m capable.
  • I can figure this out.
  • I’m loved, even when life feels messy.

But what if the thoughts on repeat are more like:

  • I’m behind.
  • I always mess this up.
  • I don’t know who I am anymore.

Then your brain starts running those thoughts on autopilot. And before long, they become your reality, even if they’re not actually true.

So what can you do?

Here are 3 tips to help you start noticing and replacing those sneaky thought loops:

1. Catch it. Start paying attention to your go-to thoughts. Especially the ones that show up when you’re tired, stressed, or overwhelmed.

2. Question it. Ask yourself: Is this actually true? Would I say this to a friend I love?

3. Replace it. Write a truer, kinder, more empowering thought to practice instead. Keep it simple. Keep it honest. Keep saying it.

Romans 12:2 reminds us to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Our minds really can be renewed. Our thoughts can be rewired. And the best part? You don’t have to do it alone.

If this hits home for you and you’re curious about the next workshop or want more personalized support, I’d love to connect. I’ll be hosting another workshop at the end of October – stay tuned for details!

Your best life awaits! And it starts in your mind.
