Grounded in a Busy Season

Last Saturday, most of our family hit the slopes together. The snow wasn’t as plentiful as past years, but honestly, it didn’t matter. We were together, laughing, making the most of what was left of the season. And somewhere on the chairlift, I realized: this is one of those moments I want to actually be present for, not just move through.

March is like that. Full. Layered. Beautiful and a little overwhelming all at once.

Maybe you’re wrapping up a winter routine and eyeing the yard that needs attention. Planning spring break. Thinking about a graduation coming up, a school change, a kid heading somewhere new. Maybe you’re celebrating something too. (March birthdays in our house!)

Life is moving. And that’s good. But it’s also easy to get swept along without ever pausing to get grounded.

From a neuroscience perspective, when we’re in constant “what’s next” mode, our brain stays in a low-grade stress response. We’re not in crisis, but we’re not fully at rest either. That steady hum of busyness can quietly drain our focus, mood, and energy over time. A few intentional pauses can actually reset the nervous system and help us show up better for all of it.

Whether you’re a mom, a dad, a caregiver, or just someone navigating a full and changing season, this is for you.

Here are a few simple ways to stay grounded when life is moving fast:

Create one daily anchor. Even 10 minutes in the morning before the day kicks in. Prayer, stillness, coffee without your phone. It signals safety to your brain and sets the tone.

Name what you’re looking forward to. Anticipation is actually good for the brain. It activates the reward system and lifts mood. Write it down. Let yourself enjoy it before it even happens.

Protect one thing that restores you. A walk. A creative outlet. Time with someone who fills you up. Busy seasons have a way of squeezing those things out first. Don’t let them.

📖 “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19

God is always at work in the transitions. Even the busy, layered, beautiful ones.

Your turn: What’s one thing you’re looking forward to this season? Please share with me! I’d love to cheer you on.
