Ever feel like you’re hiding a little? Like you’re holding back the real you

I get it. I notice this about me especially with big events, large groups, unfamiliar rooms—they can make me feel small and unsure. I tend to stick to the edges, hoping to blend in.

One thing that helps me is to look for someone else who might be feeling the same. I introduce myself and start a conversation to help them feel more at ease. It takes the focus off me—and I love making others feel seen.

But the truth is, that still doesn’t erase the deeper struggle with confidence. It happens in other times or places as well, even when I am thinking about what to share with you. I second guess myself, wonder if anyone really cares, start to feel insecure, and on it goes. That’s my brain trying to keep me safe and secure. It’s doing its job…yet I have a story that I’ve told myself over and over. That quiet voice that no one else hears that’s been stuck on replay since I was a little kid saying things like, “Why would anyone want to listen to you? You don’t have anything to share that’s worthwhile. Just be quiet…” Those are lies and I need to confront them which is something I’ve been unraveling over this past year. This story runs deep friends, so it does take time and work to erase what I’ve believed for so long and automate a different pathway in my brain. The one that tells myself real truths like, “God created me in His image. He loves me just how I am, flaws and all. It’s okay to not be perfect or do things perfectly….”

One thing that’s been helping me lately: Before stepping into those crowded spaces or when I catch myself shrinking back, I pause to repeat a Bible verse such as, “Do not fear, for I am with you” (Isaiah 41:10) and I say a short prayer such as: “God, I know you are here with me. Help me be present and trust You’ve placed me here on purpose. Help me to be your hands and feet and help me glorify you with my words and actions. Thank you for this opportunity.”

Helping others figure out what’s holding them back, then working together to erase the blocks, and automate the new neuro-pathways that they want is why I decided to go through the rigorous training to become a certified neuro-coach. I have first hand experience of how amazing this process is!  I truly love helping others get lasting results so they can live their lives to the fullest! I’m here for you and would be truly honored to hear from you.  I’d love to know if this resonates with you or if you have any tips that you’ve found helpful that you’d like to share. And if you’re curious what it looks like to work with me, I’m happy to have a conversation as well.
